CRI Visiting Scholar - October 2015

Lyla Hernandez, M.P.H., is a Senior Program Officer at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Staff Director of IOM’s Roundtable on Health Literacy. She has served as the study director for projects that include public health, health indicators, genomics, complementary and alternative medicine, and Gulf War veterans’ health.

As a Canyon Ranch Institute Visiting Scholar, Lyla spoke with CRI team members about the structure and function of the Institute of Medicine, with which CRI has been involved in numerous projects. Lyla explained how the IOM draws on the expertise of a broad range of sectors – including government, academic and research institutions, health care systems, advocacy groups, non-profits, and the private sector – to provide decision makers with reliable evidence.
